Let’s Welcome Fall with Open Arms! | Our Fall Tips

With the arrival of fall, there are plenty of fun activities to do. You can go apple picking, visit a pumpkin patch, take a scenic drive to see the fall foliage, or go for a hike in the crisp autumn air. Other popular fall activities include visiting a haunted house, attending a fall festival or fair, or simply enjoying a warm cup of apple cider while curled up with a good book. No matter what your interests are, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during this beautiful season.

The best time to see fall foliage varies depending on the location and climate. In general, foliage season starts in mid-September and lasts until mid-November. However, the timing of peak foliage can vary by several weeks depending on factors such as weather conditions, elevation, and latitude. In some areas, such as New England, the peak foliage season is in early to mid-October. In other areas, such as the Southern United States, the peak foliage season may be later in the fall. To ensure that you don’t miss the peak foliage season, it’s best to check with local parks and tourism offices for up-to-date information on the best times to visit. Now, what do you do after picking a bunch of apples? Here are a few ideas to get you started so they don’t go to waste:

1. Apple Pie: A classic dessert that’s perfect for fall. You can use pre-made crust or make your own, and fill it with sliced apples, sugar, and cinnamon.

2. Apple Crisp: A delicious and easy dessert that’s perfect for a cozy night in. Top sliced apples with a crumbly mixture of oats, brown sugar, and butter, and bake until golden brown.

3. Caramel Apples: A fun and festive treat that’s perfect for Halloween. Dip apples in melted caramel and decorate with sprinkles or chopped nuts.

4. Apple Cider: A warm and comforting drink that’s perfect for chilly fall evenings. Simmer apples with cinnamon and cloves, strain, and serve hot.

5. Apple Butter: A spreadable treat that’s perfect on toast or biscuits. Cook down apples with sugar, cinnamon, and cloves until thick and spreadable.

These are just a few ideas to get you started. With apples, the possibilities are endless!

If it’s your first time visiting a pumpkin patch, you may feel a little lost…which pumpkin do you pick? What’s the best carving method? And how do you keep it preserved throughout Halloween?

1. Choose the right pumpkin: Look for a pumpkin that is firm, smooth, and has a flat bottom to make it easier to carve.

2. Clean the pumpkin: Before you start carving, clean the pumpkin by cutting off the bottom and scooping out the seeds and pulp with a spoon or scraper.

3. Draw your design: Use a marker or pencil to draw your design on the pumpkin before you start carving. You can find templates online or create your own design.

4. Use the right tools: For best results, use a sharp, serrated knife or pumpkin carving tools to cut through the pumpkin. A small saw or serrated knife is best for detailed work.

5. Don’t cut all the way through: To create a 3D effect, carve the pumpkin in layers, cutting deeper into the pumpkin for each layer.

6. Preserve your pumpkin: To make your pumpkin last longer, coat the inside and cut edges with petroleum jelly or spray with a mixture of bleach and water.

With a little practice and creativity, you can create a beautiful and unique pumpkin carving that will be the envy of your neighborhood.
