Traveling to Virginia Beach and Hampton from Danville, VA

So we made a road trip up to Virginia Beach and Hampton this past weekend to pick up a car. The drive wasn’t bad! We passed a State Park, way too many peanut outlets, and we even went through an underwater tunnel.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel to be exact. I swear i’ve had nightmares about underwater tunnels before, but it wasn’t as scary as my dreams made it out to be. It was pretty neat despite the traffic! It’s known as 1 of the 7 engineering wonders of the modern world.

On the way we passed Occoneechee State Park in Clarksville, VA. I’ve been there as a kid to use the boat ramp, i’d love to go back sometime soon to hike and camp! You can also rent cabins on the property as well.

The park was named for Native Americans who lived in the area hundreds of years ago. The visitor center and museum have tons of history on the area and the peoples who inhabited it.

I’m pretty sure we passed about 6 peanut outlets on the way, but this one stood out to us the most. They’re temporarily closed but the building was so cute!

The Gurganus Family have been peanut farmers since 1951 and opened this outlet in 1991 to sell their farm-grown peanuts. They now offer cooked and raw peanuts, candles, ham, bacon, and other small things. I definitely want to visit this place when they open back up in the Summer.

We didn’t have time to go into downtown Hampton, but we spent the night there and ate at a Mexican restaurant and grabbed some beer for the night! The downtown area has a historic district that has notable Beaux-Arts, Art Deco, and Gothic Revival style buildings. I mean look how cute! Seems like it’d be perfect to walk around on a warm evening.
