For us, finding a great beach house is the key to having an amazing summer vacation. I’ve stayed at quite a few on the North Carolina coast over the years, but none stack up to this fully renovated A-Frame just a block from the ocean!

We booked this A-Frame on VRBO and we couldn’t have been happier. If you are looking for a great, family-friendly, place to stay in Ocean Isle, NC, then this one has our stamp of approval!
The Overall Experience
Our family booked ‘The Beacon’ on a whim two years ago. It had just been listed and had an opening for a long weekend. It was close to the beach, super cute inside, spacious, and most importantly, it had a hot tub!
We had some great days down at the beach, but I can’t say enough about this house! It was done perfectly (and we’ll get into the space shortly). When we weren’t soaking up the sun, we were eating/drinking on the deck, heading less than a mile downtown for some mini-golf & dinner, or just lounging underneath the house, where they have a full patio setup with a BIG hot tub! (Note: At the time is was pet friendly, however, it does not appear to be accommodating fur babies anymore 😔 )
The Space
Like I was saying, this place is beautiful. When you first walk in you are greeted with a wide-open layout. Dining on the left, living room on the right, a nice office nook under the stairs, and a fully updated kitchen. The natural light just pours in from the wall of windows that stretch to the ceiling.
There are two spacious bedrooms downstairs and a huge bedroom with 3 rope-hung beds upstairs. We had more than enough room to unpack our things, and still feel comfortable in our own private spaces.
Then there was the loft. Now, it’s not super easy to get up there, seeing as it has stairs that resemble a well-built wooden ladder that’s attached to the wall, but once you’re up there it’s your own private nook. My husband slept up there on the futon floor mattresses they have set up. He was loving it!
And you know what? As cool as the inside is, the outside is just as amazing. The wrap-around deck was perfect. We spend every morning outside eating breakfast on the picnic table and every evening under the house, either swinging on the gorgeous hanging swings or lounging in the hot tub.
Having a place this cute, and this functional, this close to the beach was pretty unique for the North Carolina coast, and to this day, it’s certainly been one of my favorite vacation spots. We really enjoyed our stay, and believe this to be one of the top rentals in Ocean Isle, NC!
What to do in Ocean Isle, NC
There is a ton to do in Ocean Isle, and all of it can be found at the website OceanIslebeach.com.
When we go, aside from the beach, we usually are doing kid activities and this town has a ton of those. From museums to go-carts, to rope courses, to mini-golf. There is no shortage of fun when you choose to visit OIB!
