This camp is just overflowing with nostalgia and will truly take you back in time. Maybe it’s the fact that the owners made sure to decorate the cabins with only locally found items made pre 1970? Or the no-frills lodging and old school camp activities like shuffle board, archery, and campfire s’mores overlooking the lake? Either way, I can definitely see why it was featured on Magnolia Network’s show “Bespoke Inns”.
While Camp Wandawega primarily focuses on private retreats, quite a few of their lodging options are also available for short-term rental on Airbnb. I’ve chosen to feature the Side-by-Side Vintage Cabins here. These cabins rent together and with the green cabin sleeping up to 4 people and the white cabin sleeping up to 2, they seem perfect for a family or small group of friends where a few individuals prefer a little privacy. Both cabins overlook the lake and have private beach access. As guests at the camp, you also have access to all the fun old school camp activities here like canoeing, boating, fishing, hiking, biking, tennis, horse shoes, archery, shuffle board, and campfire s’mores!
Book your stay at this property
These side-by-side cabins are available mostly in May and June with a few dates open beyond that. If this one doesn’t fit with your availability, there are several other listings on Airbnb uner the name Camp Wandawega.
The Layout
The green cabin has a foyer with bunk beds and a bedroom with a full bed. There is also a deck that leads right down to the lake. The white log cabin has a full bed, “perfect for a snuggly couple”. Other types of lodging at the camp include the Hickory Canvas Camping Cluster, The Lakeview Cabin, The Bunkhouse, The Hill House, and the Rustic Camping Cluster.
Important to Note
There are no bathrooms in the side-by-side cabins. The owners will provide you with information on the nearest available bathroom/showers upon check in. There is no heat and only a simple AC so the owners advise checking the weather before you come. They describe this experience as no-frills, rustic, and primitive depending on which lodging you choose. They write in the description that the price may seem excessive, but is also a contribution to their ongoing historic renovations and philanthropic activities provided by the camp.

–“This is such a special place, and the twin cabins were perfect for our group of two couples. There were so many things to explore, each curated to perfection. Thank you so much for letting us experience such a lovingly curated and cared for place!”
–“This place is full of nostalgia and whimsy… a magical destination. Host communication and accommodations are top notch. Not my first time here and certainly not my last. Can’t get enough!”
–“Camp Wandawega is AWESOME. After reading the “Manifesto of low expectations,” we were ready for a primitive experience. We were very pleasently surprised that our group had our own meal prep area, designated camp fire, and ALL of the fun activities available made finding something to do more than easy. I personally loved the lake with all of the blooming lily pads.
Our stay was relaxing, fun, and we wished it had been longer. You’ll love sipping your coffee as you unwind at your camping site or overlook the lake. We can’t wait to come back!”
