Live Like the Duttons by renting out the REAL Yellowstone Ranch! | Darby, Montana

Any fans of the show “Yellowstone” out there?! Did you know you can actually rent some of the cabins at the Yellowstone Ranch?

Before you get too excited, they are NOT currently available for rent due to filming. But keep checking back here so you can be the first to book your stay when they do come available!

The actual name of the ranch is Chief Joseph Ranch and there are 2 cabins available for rent on the property; fans of the show will recognize “Lee’s Cabin” and “Rip’s Cabin”. And you actually get a free tour of the ranch with your stay!

I’ve never been to Montana before so this just seems like the perfect way to experience this beautiful state!

Here’s what to expect from each of the cabins and further down, I’ve added more information on the history of the ranch.

Lee’s Cabin

This cabin was built in 1916 and is known locally as the Fisherman’s Cabin. It houses the Lodge’s domestic staff or local fisherman or vacationers. This is a 2 bedroom cabin that sleeps up to 8 people and rents for $1200/night. There is 1 King Bed, 2 Queen Beds, and 2 Twin Beds. The house also comes with wifi, DirectTV, washer/dryer, and a propane Weber grill.

Fans of Yellowstone: This is John Dutton’s oldest son, Lee’s home, which we see in Episode 1 of season 1. It’s seen again in season 2 when John moves into the cabin to reflect on the challenges of the past year. If I planned to stay here, I would definitely re-watch those episodes to check for the scenes with this cabin in it!

This one just reminds me of a quintessential mountain cabin, a place that really reflects that rustic mountain feel you need when you want to get away for a while!

Rip’s Cabin

Rip’s Cabin, locally known as the Ben Cook Cabin, has very similar features to Lee’s Cabin. It has 3 Queen beds and 2 twin beds and sleeps up to 8 people. The cost is just a bit higher for this cabin at $1,500/night. This house also has a full kitchen, wifi, DirectTV, washer/dryer, and a propane Weber grill. For fans of the show, let’s just say this cabin is in a lot of episodes!

I’d love to stay here and channel my inner Beth Dutton (just for a few days)! Click here for more information on these cabins.

A Little History

The land where the ranch was built was originally home to the Salish Native American Tribe. In the summer of 1877, Chief Joseph led his people across this land, fleeing from the U.S. Army in the Nez Perce War. Not long after this, the land was homesteaded and named the Shelton Ranch.

In 1914, the ranch (which had then become an apple orchard) was purchased by William Ford (a glass tycoon) and Howard Clark Hollister (a federal judge), and the ranch was then named the Ford-Hollister Ranch. The famous 6,000 sq ft lodge (which we know from the show as the Dutton’s Lodge) was built over 3 years using local log and stone. After Ford passed in 1935, his wife and daughters opened the ranch to guests and began operating one of the first guest ranches in the west. In the early 1950s, the ranch was sold and renamed the Chief Joseph Ranch. Click here for more history of this famed ranch.

After reading all of this, I’m dying to go and visit and learn even more about the history of this ranch in person! Would you stay here?
