This Lovely Cottage includes a Lobster Boat Lounge, a Fisherman’s Cottage, and breathtaking views of the Bay | Machiasport, ME

This Airbnb offers a fresh new take on an old classic, the Maine Lobster boat. The boat, which is completely stationary, is connected to the “Dock House” cottage by a boardwalk and has been repurposed as a relaxing library and lounge, complete with a collection of vintage board games, books, records, and old films. I think I’d get my lobster roll to-go and just chill with it in this cool lobster boat!

The main house has some great mid-century decor and there’s also a separate “Fisherman’s Cottage” with bunk beds that would be perfect for your teenage kids who would be thrilled to have their own space. Even better than all of this, is the fact that this house has beautiful views of Holmes Bay, a path to the beach, lots of hiking trails nearby, and Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor is only about 80 miles away.

This one was featured in the magazine “Maine Homes” so it is very popular and booked all summer, but availability opens back up in October.

The main cottage has a full kitchen, living room, dining room, and bedroom with a full bed. I love how light and airy it is and the choice of mid-century decor!

The fisherman’s cottage is a separate tiny house with a desk and bunk beds.

Past guests have written RAVE reviews about this Airbnb:

-“What more can you ask for than stunning ocean views, a convenient location for Downeast exploration, helpful and attentive hosts, and a perfectly designed and stocked home (away from home) for your weekend getaway? Oh that’s right, you can ask for a lobster boat turned living room lounge. Because why not? Our trip was far too short, and yet just long enough to convince us that we need to spend a lot more time Downeast, and a lot more time at Rich and Julie’s incredible getaway homes! Ending a day of hiking adventures with a bottle of wine, fresh clams, and views of a night sky exploding with stars — all of which can be enjoyed while listening to records in the lobster boat — was straight up magic.

“This was by far the best Airbnb we have ever stayed at all around. The location, the host , the decor, cleanliness, and comfort . We wanted to stay away from the tourist areas and get a peaceful Maine experience and this place was just that. The drive into bar harbor was an easy drive with nice views . We were able to get fresh lobster from the local fisherman . The host left nothing out and were so helpful and kind. We called this a hidden gem and will be back.”

“Great stay all around. Relaxing, beautiful setting. Good layout and space is maximized. Plenty of natural light with a gorgeous view overlooking the bay, but easy to pull down shades for sleeping/privacy. Love the skylights especially at night. The owners were very helpful and available; Rich even helped us find a place to kayak when the local outfitter was closed for the season. Lots to enjoy in the area, with a wealth of helpful recommendations from Rich and Julie.”

This house would be great if you’re looking for that quintessential Maine experience away from the more crowded/touristy areas. Let us know if you stay here!
