This Oceanfront Outer Banks Beach House is a True Gem! | Rodanthe, NC

You can’t get much closer to the ocean than this! The waves literally break under the deck at high tide. I love the cedar shake siding that is characteristic of homes in this area of the Outer Banks. Although the house may look older on the exterior, the interior has been nicely updated while still maintaining some older features like the wood-paneled walls, which give it that vintage appeal.

Perhaps the best part of this house though is how easy it would be to access the beach. You literally walk out the door and you’re there! This is so nice if you have kids or dogs in tow and need to come back to the house frequently.

The next open dates for this house are in October, which is still a great time to visit the beach in NC. And at $327/night, it’s a great price too!

This is a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath house that sleeps up to 10 people. The bedrooms are on the first floor while the main living space is on the top floor to offer the best views. I love the wide-open floor plan and variety of seating areas in the main living space and the light/natural wood-paneling throughout the house.

This is a fairly new rental because there are only 2 reviews so far on Airbnb. Although one person said the sound of the waves and wind were too loud, it hasn’t stopped additional guests from booking this house up for the rest of the summer. That same guest recommended bringing ear plugs and sleeping in one of the rooms closer to the road.

If you’ve never been to the Outer Banks before, let me explain that this part of the Outer Banks feels like another world, so wild and susceptible to the wind and weather. That’s what makes this place so attractive to so many people. Depending on the weather, it can definitely get loud and windy here so just be prepared for that ahead of time. This house also has a cancellation policy so that would be a good thing to check into before booking if you’re concerned about the weather.

“Mermaid Kiss was beautiful and the host was wonderful. Our stay was less than 24 hours due to a major storm but this is a home we will visit again!”

“This place takes the words “ocean view” to a whole new level! The house is literally in the ocean and the waves break underneath the house at high tide. Seeing the sunrise on the ocean in the morning was spectacular and the stars at night on the deck were amazing! If you are a light sleeper I would recommend sleeping in one of the back bedrooms and wearing earplugs because the sound of the waves and wind can be pretty intense. We decided to leave a couple days early because the waves and wind were getting really active and rain was expected.
Erick was very helpful and communicative and always available whenever we had questions.”

This house would be a great option for anyone wanting that true “Outer Banks” experience. I’m definitely considering this one for my next beach vacation!
