Unique Eco-Friendly Earthship with mountain views, beautiful sunsets, and stargazing opportunities! | Taos County, NM

This Earthship brings a whole new meaning to sustainable, eco-friendly design! The house was made from recycled glass and tires. It is totally off-the-grid with all of its electricity being powered by solar panels. Rainwater is harvested and used for watering the plants in the integrated greenhouse after it is used domestically. There is even enough heat from the New Mexico sun to provide hot water for your shower!

Many past guests have loved sitting out on the greenhouse porch and watching the sunrises, sunsets, and doing some stargazing at night. And the Earthship is about 20 minutes from Taos if you need groceries, coffee shops, or restaurant options.

The house has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and a nice open living, dining, and kitchen area that faces out towards the sunlit greenhouse. I love the New Mexican influences in the design of the house, like the tile floors and the wooden beams on the ceiling contrasted with the bright turquoise chairs and accents throughout the house.

Here you can see the sun porch/greenhouse which adds a nice indoor-outdoor feel to the house.

With how wide open the land is here, you can gaze out towards the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and watch storms coming in, see some rainbows if you’re lucky, or do some epic stargazing at night. It just seems like a beautiful setting to appreciate the natural world around you!

Read why past guests have loved staying here:

-“Our stay was equal parts stunning rural retreat and an experience that inspires us to live a more sustainable lifestyle. It’s hard not to imagine yourself comfortably living an off the grid life after staying here. It was spacious, warm and had all the amenities we could need. On top of all of that, it’s like living in a beautiful sculpture! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to come back some day soon. In the meantime this was more than a place to stay, it was an experience that will change the way that we think and see the world and our place in it.”

“This is a tremendous experience I highly recommend to anybody interested in truly experiencing the beauty and iconic scenes of Taos. The Earthship is a scientific marvel -completely off the grid with all of the amenities of modern life. The scenes are breathtaking.”

“WOW. A beautifully curated space with all the sunshine, views and gentle energy you could possibly dream of. Wonderful views of the sunset, sunrise and stars alike. Our stay was simply magical. Super close to the town of Taos for coffee, groceries, etc. Highly recco!”

Some important things to note: the owners emphasize that off-the-grid living is not for everyone and it’s important to be mindful of how much water/electricity you use. Also, there is no cell reception and the wifi can be spotty. The owners state that it is usually good for streaming TV and video calls most of the time but not all the time. But most people agree that this house gives you an opportunity to be more in tune with the way nature can provide for us. All in all, it seems like a great place I’d love to visit! What about you?
