Wow, this is pretty impressive, it sits in the historic McElmo Canyon which is about 20 minutes from the town of Cortez and 40 from Mesa Verde. I don’t think i’ve ever seen a house built into a cliff like this. The outside is deceiving, it is so spacious on the inside! This house has everything you’d need for your stay, a kitchen(with a coffee bar, gas range, oven, etc), living space, office, loft, full bathroom, and even a washer and dryer! Now this property is beautiful, but get this…there are 1000-year-old petroglyphs right around the corner from the house. Scroll down and look at them!! My jaw dropped in disbelief.

When is the best time to visit this area?
This is a perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature and learn more about the history of this area. There’s no TV but there is WiFi for those nights you want to stream a movie on your phone or laptop. The hosts do live nearby on a historic farm so the property is shared, but it’s pretty large and there are multiple places to explore. Check out that teepee and the views are just breathtaking.

You’ll want to note that you will be traveling on a dirt path when getting to the house, the hosts note to drive slow and watch out for animals. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed but you might see the hosts’ dog roam around the property!
