Earthen Hobbit House near Venice Beach, only $110/night! | Los Angeles, CA

I’ve seen quite a few hobbit houses recently but most of them are pretty secluded and nowhere near a major city. This one manages to provide that secluded feeling while also being right in the middle of an artistic L.A. neighborhood walkable to Venice Beach, Marina del Rey, and close to LAX.

This one is so popular I couldn’t find any available dates, keep checking here to see if any open up in the future.

The Hobbit House is one of three small rentals surrounding a courtyard of beautiful sunny gardens and hangout spots. And it’s a pretty unique structure! Built halfway under the ground, it still has a lot of windows and natural wood throughout so it seems light and airy inside. I love the roof, which is covered in soil and plants.

Inside the house, you have a queen bed, a single bed, a table for two, and a small refrigerator. Outside, you have a lot of shared spaces including the bathroom, shower, outdoor kitchen with a refrigerator, a coffee station, laundry room, and a yoga platform.

I read through some of the reviews on Airbnb and thought this one was the most helpful:

“So this is an adventure for those who have never seen an earth house. Which is a dwelling built into the ground. There were several buildings which all share the same bathroom which seemed a little awkward in the morning when demand is high. The Hobbit house is round and has two beds that were comfy and a small table with seating for two,a fan and a heater. The beds were set on big boulders which I bumped a knee into a couple of times. The yard was filled with fruit trees and artistic touches. I think this place is perfect for young adventurous folks or those young at heart. It was a bit of a challenge if you are older and need quick access to a toilet. The host was very responsive and checked in on us several times. All in all it’s a cute place.”

And here are a few more reviews:

“Awesome little oasis near Marina Del Ray! Each Airbnb option in the circle is so unique and the other guests in the circle were very friendly. Highly recommend!”

“This was my childhood dream come true. Coolest airbnb I have stayed in yet. It was comfortable, bigger than expected, and filled with cool little touches everywhere. Helen was a great host, and the folks I meet there were really nice too. I had a great experience and would definitely recommend to any adventurer.”

So after taking a look at this one, it seems perfect for that young, free spirit, looking for a fun weekend getaway in a great location. Would you stay here? Let us know!
