Stay in this 18th Century Federal Home, a Virginia Historic Landmark close to Blacksburg | Elliston, VA

Take a step back in time when you stay at this beautiful historic home featuring grand, stately rooms with high ceilings, antique furniture, and beautiful views of the countryside! With four bedrooms and three and a half baths, it sleeps 6 and would be great for a family get-together or gathering with friends. It’s located in the Blue Ridge Mountains about 25 minutes from Blacksburg, a bustling college town that is home to Virginia Tech. Close to a lot of great hiking, wineries, and all of the college town appeal of Blacksburg, you can choose whether you want to have an active vacation or relax and unwind away from it all. After seeing pictures of the library, I think I’d spend most of my time there relaxing on the couch with a glass of wine and a good book!

Right now there are quite a few available dates heading into the spring and summer, although seeing the leaves change in the fall would also be great!

Read why past guests have loved staying here:

“astounding, spectacular, incredible – no adjective would be excessive to describe our stay here. Imagine going to tour a historic mansion, and suddenly someone removed the gate and said “please, come live here”. The beauty, luxury, comfort, and uniqueness of this place are unbelievable. George, the caretaker, lives on the premises, and was a wonderfully warm host. He gave us plenty of privacy, and immediately took care of any small issue – and even brought us cakes and pastries one afternoon! He just exuded warmth. We were six friends on a writing retreat, and we cannot wait to come back next year and ever after!”

-“Great stay! We couldn’t believe we were staying in such a historically preserved estate. It made for such a fun and memorable vacation in a scenic location, especially in the fall! The caretakers were so accommodating and the beds were extremely comfortable.”

“Fotheringay is an experience, not simply a place to stay. The property is wonderful and special, made even more so by its kind and helpful caretaker. We visited over Thanksgiving and were drawn by the history of the place. By the end of our three-night stay we felt as comfortable as if we lived there.”
