Stay in the Oldest Operating Lighthouse in Maryland! | Lusby, MD

This lighthouse and keeper’s quarters are just gorgeous! You can tell they have been well taken care of through the years and nicely updated on the inside too! It would be such a unique opportunity to stay here! Built in 1828, the Cove Point Lighthouse is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in Maryland and it’s situated on one of the narrowest points of the Chesapeake Bay. I’m sure even the drive to get here is beautiful, not to mention how relaxing it would feel once you’re here! All the proceeds from this rental also go to a lighthouse endowment fund through the Calvert Marine Museum to continue the upkeep of the lighthouse.

Book your stay at this property

This lighthouse is very popular. There aren’t any open dates until late November/ early December. But it definitely seems like this one is worth planning ahead for!

This rental is for Side B of the Keeper’s Quarters, which was turned into a duplex in 1925 to house a second family of lighthouse keepers. If you have a larger group, you can also rent side A and have the whole house to yourself.

The keeper’s quarters is a 3 story house. On the first floor, you have the kitchen, living space, laundry and half bath. On the second floor you have a room with twin beds, a room with a queen bed, and a full bathroom. On the third floor, you have a room with a queen bed, a full bathroom, and a reading nook at the tops of the stairs. Outside you have a screened-in porch and access to the beach, where many past guests have found a LOT of shark’s teeth! (I think this could be an activity that would keep my kids busy for a few hours!)

Here are some reviews from past guests:

“Jenny’s place exceeded our expectations! Very secluded and peaceful. It was our annual mother daughter trip which included my 80 year old grandmother. She’s not big on walking anymore but took much joy in being able to see all the beautiful scenery from every window/porch area. We seen deer on the beach which was a first and exciting. Jenny’s Airbnb was very clean and cozy. The three bedrooms accommodated us nicely. We enjoyed our trip from start to finish and plan to book again.”

“We had a great stay! Loved everything about this property. The house was perfect. The beach was beautiful. The kids found 300+ sharks teeth in 4 days! We will be back.”

“We learned about the Cove Point Lighthouse during the pandemic — and we are so glad we did. We’ve stayed now here several times and it has become a retreat for our family. We have a young son who could play for hours on the beach while watching the boats (and the occasional fighter jet) come by. The space is perfect for a relaxing few days, always clean and tidy. During these pandemic days, we largely cooked for ourselves in the kitchen, which comes with many of the cooking/eating necessities. Our favorite outings beyond the Lighthouse include the Calvert Marine Museum (so much good stuff packed into this museum) and Annmarie Sculpture Garden during the fairy festival and the holiday lights. We look forward to coming back!”

So what do you think of this lighthouse Airbnb? I would love to come here to relax, but would also love to learn more about the history of the lighthouse! Here’s another historic rental in Maryland we recommend:
